Introducing Disc Ease Therapy

Disc Ease Therapy is a new treatment option for patients who have experienced back or neck pain due to a damaged disc. This therapy utilizes lumbar and cervical decompression in order to correct conditions of the lower back without the use of surgery. It develops a vacuum effect or negative pressure within the disc that then allows its center to be absorbed back into its normal position. This unherniates the disc and can result in pain relief.

Relieving Pain with Disc Ease Therapy

When facet joints of the lumbar and cervical spine and intervertebral discs are changed, pressure is exerted onto vital structures. This can result in inflammation, muscle spasms, and significant pain. Your Alpharetta Disc Ease Therapy will relieve this pressure and other factors that are thought to cause pain through the use of precise adjustments along the spinal column. This is done without applying any type of rotational movements or undesirable twisting.

Choosing Disc Ease Therapy over Traditional Treatments

In the past, physical therapy, medications, and surgery have been the traditional routes to treating spinal problems. Unfortunately, back surgery often results in complications that can potentially cause conditions that are permanently debilitating. These risky and expensive procedures resulted in the need for a new therapy to be developed that is less invasive. The use of Disc Ease Therapy has been shown to be successful when treating lower back pain that is caused by a variety of conditions, including:

There are also other benefits to choosing this treatment option over more traditional avenues. This treatment method has also resulted in an option for geriatric patients who suffer from back pain issues, as surgery is often contraindicated for this population. Additionally, there is no concern for becoming dependent upon this treatment method, which is often an issue when patients with chronic pain are forced to use prescription medications for relief.

How to Avoid Text Neck

Have you experienced pain or tension in your neck, shoulders, or head, specifically after you used your cell phone? Do you find yourself commonly texting or using your cell phone? If so, you may be experiencing “text neck”, which is a syndrome that chiropractors are beginning to see more frequently in their offices. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to visit your Alpharetta chiropractor for treatment.

What is Text Neck?

Text neck is a type of repetitive stress injury that results from bending the head forward for extended periods of time. This activity can cause the neck to strain and can result in considerable pain. Chiropractors are beginning to see an increase in patients looking for treatment of these injuries, and this phenomenon is thought to be in part due to our dependency on electronic devices.

How Can You Avoid Text Neck?

By using your technological device in a smarter way, you can work to avoid neck pain.

• Restrict your time on your cell phone. Only text for a few minutes at a time and try increasing the amount of phone calls you make rather than texting.

• Change positions frequently by getting up and walking around. Performing a few simple stretches can also help to loosen your muscles.

• Consult your chiropractor, as they can assist you in addressing these repetitive stress injuries before they cause a bigger problem. By visiting the chiropractor regularly, you can work to prevent injuries before they occur.

• Avoid craning your neck to look down for significant periods of time. Instead, bring your phone up to your eyes to view the screen.

• Use good posture. If you sit and stand properly, you will be less likely to have poor posture when texting or using your cell phone.

Three Facts You Didn’t Know About Chiropractic Care

Most people don’t know much about chiropractic care and what it entails. As chiropractors will explain, many people are of the erroneous impression that this method is used exclusively for treating fibromyalgia, pain in the elbow, foot joints, ankle, knee and hip, slipped discs, neck pain, and lower back pain among others.

While it is true that chiropractic treatment in Alpharetta is among the best and most effective for all types of back pain, especially persistent low back pain, this natural method is used for treatment of many other health conditions as well.

Chiropractic Care is Used to Treat a Wide Variety of Health Problems

Contrary to common belief, chiropractics don’t deal with only pain related to bones, muscles, and joints. This treatment is amazingly effective with other seemingly unrelated-to-bone conditions such as gastrointestinal disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, high blood pressure, infant colic, allergies, and even asthma, among others.

1. Helps Regularizing Waste Elimination. As any chiropractor will tell you, this method helps people regularizing their bowel movements. When the thyroid isn’t functioning properly, it affects the nerves of the colon, which in turn will affect bowel movement. Realignment of the back, will ensure that you see huge improvement in bowel movements.

2. Immunity System Booster. Studies have shown that misalignment of the vertebras in the neck can heavily affect the way your body reacts to infection. Realignment would ensure that the immunity system is enhanced and you can fight off infections much better.

3. Improved Digestion. The acidity that you are suffering from could very well be the result of a few vertebra misaligned in the region of the thoracic region. This would result in bloating, indigestion, acid reflux, and acute heartburn.

Is Spinal Decompression Therapy Right for You?

If you have been suffering from back pain, you know that it can be disruptive to your life. While there are many treatment options available, some people have decided to try spinal decompression therapy, which can either be done surgically or non-surgically. In order to decide whether pursuing spinal decompression in Alpharetta is the best decision for you, it is important to better understand the options.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy is a kind of motorized traction which can help to relieve pain in the back. This works by stretching the spine gently to change the position and force of the spine. Ultimately, this can remove pressure from the spinal disks. Supporters of this type of therapy believe that this type of treatment can retract herniated or bulging disks that can eventually remove pressure from spinal nerves. It has commonly been used to treat:

  • Herniated or bulging disks
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Neck or back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Diseased or injured spinal nerve roots
  • Worn spinal joints

People who should not pursue non-surgical spinal decompression include those with any of the following conditions:

  • Tumor
  • Fracture
  • Advanced osteoporosis
  • Spinal implants made of metal
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm

Surgical Spinal Decompression

Surgical spinal decompression can help to relieve pressure symptoms that the nerves and spinal cord experience, including weakness, tingling, numbness, and pain. However, it is typically used as a treatment of last resort for ruptured or bulging disks, bony growths, and other spinal issues. This is because there are risks associated with surgery, some of the most common of which include:

  • Tissue or nerve damage
  • Blood clots
  • Bleeding
  • Allergic reactions
  • Infection

There are also several different types of surgeries when it comes to spinal decompression, the most common of which include:

  • Laminotomy
  • Foraminotomy
  • Diskectomy
  • Osteophyte Removal

For most people, the Spinecor is found to be highly beneficial and we have patients who have refused surgery after finding the Spinecor. Do your own due diligence by researching all your options and make the best choice for you.

Why Test for Oxidative Stress?

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide are currently produced by metabolic processes in all living cells. Under normal physiological conditions, self generated ROS I never neutralized by the action of antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes. Should these systems falter, excessive ROS accumulation can lead to sell your damage, including DNA damage, protein oxidation and lipid oxidation which may lead to damage of cell membranes and mitochondria as well as the progression of conditions associated with aging.
The Oxidative stress measures two systems for removing ROS from the cell. The first is intercelluar reduced glutathione, the primary antioxidants found within the cells and the second being superoxide dismutase (SOD) family, the main enzymes which remove ROS from the cell and mitochondria. In addition to evaluating the cells ability to remove ROS, damage to lipids and DNA is also quantified by using TBARS (MDA), F2-Isoprostane and 8-hydroxy-deoxyguaninosine (8-OHdG), TBARS is a measure of oxidative stress caused by environmental factors or internal causes, i.e. reduced glutathione levels or reduced SOD activity. F2-Isoprostane is pro-inflammatory. It is downstream from arachidonic acid and creates inflammation within the brain and is vasoconstrictive. 8-OHdG is correlated with an increased risk of cancer and neurologic disorders. This profile demonstrate the accident capacity of the cell, the removal of ROS in the damage created as a result of excess ROS. Measuring and treating oxidative stress helps prevent aging in age related conditions such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Why test for Zonulin?

Zonulin is a protein that upon binding to its receptor, causes the disassembly of tight gap junctions and increased permeability within the intestines. Because they reported that patient with active celiac disease showing higher levels of Zonulin than nonceliac patients. It is suggested that increased levels of Zonulin are a contributing factor to development of celiac disease, I don’t mean disorders, insulin-dependent diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Urine Amino Acids

Why test Urine Amino Acids?

Amino acid analyses aid in the diagnosis of: dietary protein adequacy and amino acid balance, gastrointestinal dysfunctions, forms of protein intolerance, nutritional deficiencies (vitamin, minerals), renal and hepatic dysfunction, psychiatric abnormalities, susceptibility to inflammatory response and oxidative stress, reduced detoxification capacity, susceptibility to occlusive arterial disease and many inherent disorders in amino acid metabolism.

Many individuals have “hidden” impairments in amino acid metabolism that are problematic and often go undiagnosed. These impairments may or may not be expressed as specific symptoms. They are silently increase susceptibility to a degenerative disease or they may be associated with, but not causative for a disease. Because of the wealth of information provided, it is suggested that a complete amino acid analysis be performed whenever a thorough nutritional and metabolic workup is called for.
Amino acid analysis provides fundamental information about nutrient adequacy: the quality and quantity of dietary proteins, digestive disorders, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies (particularly folic acid, B12, B0 metabolism, zinc and magnesium). In addition, amino acid analysis provides important diagnostic information about hepatic and renal function, availability of precursors of neurotransmitters, detoxification capacity, susceptibility to occlusive arterial disease (homocysteine), and many inherent disorders in amino acid metabolism.
The patient’s results are presented in a functional format that permits case of interpretation. A comprehensive summary of “presumptive needs” (e.g. B0, B12/ folate, Mg) and “implied conditions” (e.g. maldigestion/ malabsorption, abnormal gastrointestinal flora, impaired detoxification, oxidative stress) is presented based on upon each patient’s results. Patient specific amino acid supplement schedules and user-friendly commentary paragraphs are provided to simplify nutritional intervention.

Oxidized LDL with Lipids: Profile 6050

Oxidized LDL with Lipids

Why test for Oxidized LDL?

OXIDIZED LDL PREDICTS THE PROGRESSION OF THE HEART DISEASE AND PLAQUE FORMATION IN THE ARTERIES. Research from JAMA (Journal of the American Association) and Journal of Internal Medicine and Circulation confirm that we can finally predict our risk of heart disease, even if symptoms do not present themselves, and in patients with no previous history of heart disease. Oxidized LDL also reveals our needs for heart healthy antioxidants such CoQ10. High level of oxidized LDL is a predictor of plague formation in arteries, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and heart disease.
As the rate of obesity increases throughout the world, there is an alarming rate of obesity in children and conditions of insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease. Oxidized LDL has been shown to be a predictive marker for early signs of atherosclerosis in children, even as young as 6 years of age.
One of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in parents with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is cardiovascular disease. As a result of the increased inflammation associated with RA, there are structural changes within lipoproteins that may potentiate cardiovascular disease. It was shown that an increased level of oxidized LDL was associated with both subclinical atherosclerosis and inflammatory variables.
